The philanthropic arm of Macquarie Group has announced $3.7 million in funding for four recipients in the health, welfare and arts sectors. This first round of philanthropic funding for 2010 marks the foundation’s 25th anniversary.

The beneficiaries include Cure Cancer Australia, which will receive funding over three years to continue supporting young post-doctoral researchers with an innovative approach to solving complexities in cancer research.

In particular, funding will provide extra support for the CAN TOO program, encouraging athletes to take part in organised events to help fundraise.

Mission Australia will also benefit from funding over five years to continue expanding its research, advocacy and social support programs.

The arts sector has also benefited with Macquarie Group Foundation making a three-year funding commitment to support the Australia Business Arts Foundation (AbaF) in administering the Australian Cultural Fund, which makes grants to develop Australian culture and supports artists.

Another arts organisation, the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, will receive funding over three years for its Noteworthy school-based education program.
